This year I invested in some holiday storage boxes and my favorite is this light storage box from The Container Store. It comes with "plates" that you wrap your strands around and then they hang on two rails built into the box. Our lights fit so well and we even included our ribbon garland too.
We purchased the small box for $15.99 but a larger box is available, as well as extra plates for more strands of lights.
